The Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is designed to provide exceptional protection from your baby’s first ride through childhood. It is built to accommodate children from 5 to 120 pounds and grows alongside your child while delivering premium comfort, outstanding durability, and industry-leading safety.

One Car Seat for Every Stage

The Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat supports your child through multiple stages of growth. It adapts as they grow taller and heavier.

  • Rear-Facing: 5–50 lbs
  • Forward-Facing: 26.5–120 lbs
  • Booster Mode: Up to 120 lbs
  • Designed to provide up to 10 years of use

This long-lasting design eliminates the need to purchase multiple car seats as your child grows.

Rear-facing child car seat for up to 50 lb, with adjustable harness and machine-washable cover.

Extended Rear-Facing for Enhanced Safety

Safety experts recommend keeping children rear-facing as long as possible. This approach supports better protection in a crash. For the Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat, ensure it remains rear-facing until the maximum weight or height limit is reached.

The Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat supports extended rear-facing up to 50 pounds, helping provide additional protection for your child’s head, neck, and spine during important developmental years.

Slim Fit Design Fits Three Across

The famous Diono slim-fit design allows three Radian seats to fit across many standard vehicle back seats.

This space-saving design is ideal for:

  • Growing families
  • Multiple siblings
  • Carpools
  • Smaller vehicles
  • Families with multiple car seats

Despite its slim footprint, the seat maintains generous comfort without sacrificing safety.

Reinforced Steel Frame for Maximum Protection

The reinforced steel frame provides maximum protection.

Unlike many traditional convertible car seats, the Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat features a reinforced automotive-grade steel core.

Combined with advanced side-impact protection and a durable outer shell, the steel frame provides exceptional strength and long-lasting durability for years of everyday use.

ComfortPlus™ Memory Foam for Superior Comfort

Every ride is more enjoyable thanks to premium ComfortPlus™ memory foam, designed to provide excellent cushioning and support.

Whether you’re running daily errands or embarking on long road trips, your child stays comfortable throughout the journey.

Perfect for travel.

The Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat folds flat for easier transportation and storage. It is one of the few convertible car seats that offer this feature.

We absolutely love our Diono Radian 3R! It’s been a fantastic car seat for our child, lasting from infancy all the way to booster use. Here’s why it gets 5 stars:

Space-Saving Design: This car seat is a dream for tight spaces. Its slim design allows us to fit 3 car seats across our mid-size car, perfect for families with multiple children.

Long-Lasting Value: This car seat truly grows with your child. It transitions seamlessly from rear-facing for newborns (up to 50 lbs) to forward-facing (up to 100 lbs) and then to a booster seat (up to 120 lbs). It’s a one-time investment that lasts for years.

Comfort & Safety: Our child finds the Radian 3R very comfortable, with breathable fabric and a well-padded design. Plus, Diono’s safety record and features like the steel-reinforced frame give us peace of mind.

Easy to Use: Installation with SuperLatch was a breeze, and switching between rear-facing and forward-facing is simple. The harness is easy to adjust and the removable cup holders are a convenient touch.

Easy to Clean: The Diono Radian 3R’s machine-washable fabrics make cleaning up spills and messes a breeze.

If you’re looking for a convertible car seat that’s safe, space-saving, comfortable, and built to last, the Diono Radian 3R is an excellent choice!

Awesome car seat!! Easy to wash cover and really easy to tighten the strap! Had it for 4 years until my kid outgrew it and it has lived on to a new owner who loves it too!

So, as a former CPST, I have a love/hate relationship with the Diono Radian (and its precursor, the Sunshine Kids version). It’s a fantastic narrow, low profile seat that fits in seating situations that other seats can’t. It’s also the most uniquely difficult car seat I have ever worked with. The Radian has multiple ‘rules’ and ‘modes’ that must be switched based on the direction the seat is facing and the weight of the child riding in it, making it easy to misuse and impractical for any situation where you have to move the seat or reconfigure it often. However, knowing this, I diligently read the manual, tested everything out, configured it properly for my son (5 years old, 36 lbs, 42″). He is using the second harness slots from the top so he has room to grow.

Installing it in the car was another trick. Of the three rear seating positions in our car, two have removable headrests and one has a fixed, forward head rest (the center seat). The Radian can be securely installed in either of the outboard positions, but it can only be used RF in the center seat because the fixed forward head rest does not allow the car seat to sit flush against the vehicle seat back. This was somewhat frustrating, because due to its narrowness it is an ideal seat to use in the center position, so I was a little bummed. However, it is now installed outboard for my son and is so low profile that my daycare kiddo has no problem climbing over him to get to his booster in the pick up line at school.

Overall, this can be a difficult seat to use. 10000% recommend meeting with a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician if you purchase this one, just to make sure you’re using it properly given some of its unique features. But as far as quality and ability to use next to other seats, it’s great.

I like it. Heavy. Feels high quality. It can be a little bit difficult to install but not undoable if you read the instructions. It’s slick and looks great. Safety ratings are reason for purchase.

There were 2 features I purchased this for. The narrow construction that allows for 3 carseats side by side. It took 2 of these and another narrow seat to fit forward facing in a Saturn ion. Second is the all in one. Won’t need to buy another seat or booster.

If used rear facing, these take up more room than other seats. They are tall, plus the angle make it difficult to fit in a small car with a tall person in the front seat. Would not work for an infant in my Ion.

I also like that is very sturdy. There’s lots of metal in the construction. Feels safer. The trade-off is that it’s heavy. But that’s not a concern unless moving it from car to car all the time.

Have only used as a forward facing carseat so far. But I like all the options that it can be used for. There are less expensive seats, but having to buy a rear facing, then forward, then a booster ads up. May save money in the long run if starting with just this one all-in-one.

On the other hand, the dedicated infant car seats that can detach are super handy for going into stores without unbuckling your baby. Something to consider.

    Overall, highly recommend this seat.

  7. Goofy Family

They truly do fit 3 across, even in my compact SUV. The quality is nice and easy to assemble and clean!

One of the easiest car seats to install and uninstall in a car.

Personal I would not recommend for Forward facing though, even though they say they can, it does not seem secure enough for me!

We have a 2007 scion XB & we tried the diono seats in hopes of holding off buying a brand new car before our 3rd baby arrived. We were able to install 2 diono’s along with our chicco keyfit carseat perfectly in the back seat! Our 4 yr old, 2 yr old (both forward facing) and our new baby will fit perfectly and comfortably in the scion. However, they only fit nicely in forward facing mode because when they are rear facing, the headrest is really tall & the recline is pretty steep, so it definitely would’ve been touching the back seat of the driver or passenger. You can feel the heaviness and durability in these seats compared to the evenflo & graco seats we had, but that’s what also helps me feel secure knowing the kids are safe.

My husband is happy that we get to keep the scion for a little while longer! Team no minivan!

Great chair struggled to get a chair with a 5 point harness for my 5year old who can’t use a normal seatbelt.

  18. Jim S

I got this for my youngest who sits in the middle with booster seats on each side for her brothers. It is narrower than the one it replaces and I really like the red color and design. It looks like a high quality car seat and feels premium. It looks great and fits great in my Range Rover Velar. Overall, I like it but there are a few things to consider:

    PROS

    1. Great looking design

    2. Premium feel

    3. Easy for my 4-year-old daughter to buckler herself

    4. Narrow

    5. Comfortable for my daughter

    CONS

    1. It’s VERY heavy. If you have to take this seat out from time to time, that might be a concern. This is for my car but my wife would never go for a seat this heavy. It seems like it weighs twice as much as the older Maxi Cosi seat it replaces. If the weight of the seat is a concern, avoid this one.

    2. There is nothing intuitive about installing this thing. I had to watch a YouTube video just to find the installation instructions. I’m not kidding – they are hidden in the back fabric and housing. Once you have the instructions, they are not much help. This illustrations are professionally drawn but hard to understand. Even getting the various straps out of the back plastic housings is tricky.

The car seat is nice however with certain vehicles using the top tether hook for safety is not an option while using in rear facing. No instructions came in the box so I had to google the manual. According to the manual the top tether safety latch is supposed to be used when in rear facing. It is rather big still for my back seat even though it is a slim fit. Not much when adjusting it is pretty basic. I have not cleaned it yet since I just got it yesterday. My baby seems to be comfortable to n it but when he falls asleep I worry with the way his head slumps over.

We live this car seat – it’s slim, it’s heavy duty, and the kids are comfortable in their seats. We’ve put each of ours in a diono since birth and have never had any issues with these seats. The ONLY issue with them isn’t even in the seats themselves but the advertising. This product page says it supports booster mode for 40 lbs and more, but the instruction manual (and that of every diono we’ve ever owned) actually says to move to booster mode, a child must be at least 50 lbs (for high back). IF you are thinking about purchasing this seat for the lower weight requirement listed, I’d urge you not to purchase this product; however, if your primary concern is the utmost safety and taking conservative precautions to protect your child at every stage in life, I’d HIGHLY recommend ANY diono product UNLESS you have lap only belts (which diono has transparently admitted their seats would not likely be the safest option for). Whether you’re still searching for a high quality seat or a seasoned parent doing research on the next step, I STRONGLY encourage you to read the manuals for these seats before buying or taking the next step AND reading any FAQs or safety notices that have recently been released by diono themselves. Outside of all that, I still can’t do anything less than sing high praise for diono and I’d absolutely recommend any one of their seats to another parent.

We love this chair; and have had a variety of other brand car seats over the years. 1) it’s more narrow and streamlined than anything else we’ve used – which is why we bought it (3 kids in a 5 year window and a 3 across car seat configuration). 2) The straps adjust easily; tighten and loosen smoothly! (other seats we’ve used feel like you’re constantly tugging and readjusting and just fighting with the straps. I’ve never fought with these). 3) maintenance is simple, cover goes on and off easily and you can throw it in the wash. It has other cool features we haven’t used much, but I like that it can basically fold up if you ever travel with it.

“Cons”. a) The seat is heavy, so if you’re moving it from one car to another often that would be a pain. Personally I like how solid it feels, and we don’t move it much so it’s not an issue. b) we put a small rip in the cover fabric the month we got it, but were able to sow it back up and no issues since (one of the kids climbed over the back of the seat and their shoe somehow snagged the cover). c) REAR FACING the seat leans back really far (further than any other seat we’ve used) – you have to move the front seat ahead of it quite a ways up for it to fit properly. They do sell an angle adjuster that can go under the seat to help mitigate this, but I haven’t purchased one. Either way, we love it and maybe should’ve picked a more gender neutral colour. I wish we had started with this car seat from the beginning with our first kid.

Our favorite car seat / booster or all time! Worth the price!! Fits 3 across, easy for toddler to buckle themselves and goes in the third row of the car! Also it’s good for 10 years which is much longer than most car seats!

This is an excellent car seat for a growing toddler or child. We loved it so much that we purchased one for every car, including the grandparents’. My son had difficulty getting in and out of his previous car seat and struggled with buckling, but he has completely mastered it with this one. He feels more independent and proud that he can get in and out on his own.

Another big plus is how space-conscious this seat is. We can comfortably fit two car seats and a third person in the middle seat of our SUV, which is perfect when traveling with extra passengers. Installation is easy, making it simple to move between different vehicles if needed.

Pros: Slim design, solid build, and very comfortable due to foam cushioning of the seat. It easily fits in the back center of a Ford Focus along with an infant seat on one side + room for an adult on the other side.

Cons: Hard to remove the cover; they claim that the car seat cover is “easily removable” and “washable” – either of which is true. This is super annoying especially since kids are dirty, they throw up, or have potty accidents. We updated to this car seat from a Graco Slim Fit. On the Graco, I can take out the seat cover within 1 minute single handed. On the Diono forward facing, I had to loosen the seat installation, access the back to unlatch the two shoulder belts from the bottom hook, pull these belts through the seat back, then I can remove the cover completely. Why couldn’t Diono just put 2 slits on the cover for the seat belts to slide out? It would make cover removal SO much easier. The seat cover is not really washable: even on the delicate cycle, the backing of the cover got completely destroyed in the wash. I did not put it in the dryer! A replacement cover is $99. The foam is not washable either; I tried washing it and it split. :'( WTH?

Overall, I still like the car seat, but beware of the issues with the seat cover removal and washing. Diono sells a waterproof seat protector for $16.99, I guess I’ll buy that. But I’m not happy to have to spend the extra money for an accessory to a seat cover that should be easily washable in the first place.

I like to think I have a cool car and wanted a car seat that was safe, red and less bulky for my tall 4 year old. This exceeded my expectations. Hubby said it was a little complicated to install but it’s heavy, made of steel and my son loves it.

My daughter is 42inches, 36lbs- 5 years old pictured here.

We bought this car seat with the idea that i wanted a slim durable seat that my daughter could grow in to and have for a long period of time.

    Pros:

    • Narrow design, great for tight spaces

    • Comfortable without the need for extra padding

    • Minimalistic but feels very secure

    • Steel frame provides added safety

    Cons:

    • Quite heavy, not ideal for travel

    • Tall and wide when rear-facing, limits front seat adjustment (not pictured here)

    • Adjusting the shoulder height requires uninstalling the seat, which is inconvenient

    • Not versatile for use with multiple kids due to the need for frequent rethreading of the harness

Overall, it’s a solid choice for safety and comfort but better suited for a dedicated setup rather than frequent switching or travel.

Awesome car seat!! Easy to wash cover and really easy to tighten the strap! Had it for 4 years until my kid outgrew it and it has lived on to a new owner who loves it too!

We bought 2 of these to fit in the backseat of our 2010 Toyota Camry. 1 rear facing, middle forward facing, next to infant (Uppababy Mesa) seat. Middle forward facing was the only way it would fit.

Pro’s: slim, sturdy, easy for our kids to get into themselves, latch system is easy/works well. Good customer service from Diono. Our first one didn’t have the rear-facing piece in the box.

    Cons:

    * Very heavy!

    * Tall backside. Check your car seat manual whether a car seat is allowed to touch/rest against the front seat (if rear facing). Now having moved one to the middle back seat (forward facing) on our Honda Odyssey, it sits higher and blocks the rearview a bit. Wasn’t an issue in the Camry.

No cupholders- fine, since that wouldn’t fit anyway.

Not as much padding, so perhaps less comfortable, but both our kids are fine in them.

Overal conclusion: great car seat if you have a tight back seat!

The Diono Radian 3R 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has proven to be an absolute game-changer for our family, and my son absolutely loves it!

The versatility of this car seat is outstanding – from rear-facing to forward-facing, it’s designed to accommodate different stages of a child’s growth. The 10-year lifespan is a fantastic feature, providing peace of mind knowing that it will last through various developmental milestones.

My son finds the seat incredibly comfortable, and the plush padding adds an extra layer of coziness. The reinforced steel frame gives a sense of security, and the installation process was surprisingly straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions provided.

What sets the Diono Radian 3R apart is its slim design, making it a perfect fit even in compact cars without compromising safety. The adjustable headrest and harness system ensure a snug and secure fit as my son continues to grow.

As a parent, I appreciate the ease of cleaning – the fabric is removable and machine washable, a lifesaver for those inevitable spills and messes.

If you’re in search of a convertible car seat that prioritizes both comfort and safety, the Diono Radian 3R is an excellent choice. It has made our car journeys much more enjoyable for my son, and as a parent, I couldn’t be happier with this purchase! 🚗👶🌟 #DionoRadian3R #ConvertibleCarSeat #SafetyFirst

Super sleek, safe & sturdy. It’s so easy to strap the kids in & adjust knowing they’re safe & secure. I love the strap pads that would 💯 prevent any necks getting slit in an accident. It’s easy to take in & out but it’s definitely not recommended as a grab & go car seat. It’s solid.. the steele frame makes it pretty heavy so as long as you aren’t puny, you’ll be fine. You might break a sweat, transporting it and putting it in another car, but would you rather than be safe or in a cheap inexpensive Walmart car seat with straps that constantly twist. Super comfortable, apparently. My son usually falls asleep before we even get out of town. I bought one for my mom’s car and my husbands mom’s car. We have a different Dion model in ours but this one is easier to use honestly..

This was our first car seat purchase of this brand, and we’re so happy with it! Our child loves it even on long drives. It was super easy to install, and we felt confident choosing it after reading the strong safety ratings. It’s also easy to clean the cover comes off easily and can be tossed in the wash, then air-dried. It’s narrow enough to fit multiple seats across and works great rear-facing in smaller vehicles as well. We liked it so much, we bought a second one for our other vehicle. Great quality at a reasonable price highly recommend!
