We have purchased several High Sierra products over the years and always been very happy with them. This is no different. Teen daughter is very happy with it.
PROS:
– Pockets galore. Helps her stay organized. Varying sizes allow her room for big binders as well as pens, gum, etc.
– Good waterbottle pocket to keep hers close at hand.
– Good comfortable straps, easy to adjust
CONS:
– Maybe the zippers will not last as long. They seem to get stuck on the adjacent fabric. Time will tell!

This book bag was purchased for a sixth grade boy who seemingly has an increased workload of homework from school, so I knew that he needed something that would be able to endure the rough & tough nature of boys and still hold up to all of the homework demands. I have been impressed with the quality of High Sierra and sought out this brand when considering this purchase for him. Previously he had an Adidas book bag that lasted 2.5 years and in comparison to this High Sierra book bag, it might have been better that we stuck with the same brand that we had used previously.
Although there are lots of zippers and compartments for things, my initial thought upon receiving this book bag was, “Wow, this is a little small.” Knowing that looks could be deceiving, we decided to give it a go anyways. On a typical school day, our son brings home an assignment notebook, his homework / school work folder, usually 1-2 school books (standard sized, hard-covered books), and then usually by the time that he gets home, he has other things stuffed in there (such as his winter hat, a hoodie, gloves, pencils, school papers, etc).
The middle section is where his text books are normally placed, and just with the two textbooks that he brings home, it is a rather snug fit. The main zippered section is where he places his assignment notebook and homework / school work folder. Thinking that I was “smarter than a sixth grader,” I decided to switch around where he was placing the books vs the assignment notebooks and to my dismay, the folder and assignment notebook were too tall and interfered with the zipper, thus he would have been unable to zip up that section of the book bag. Basically if he was to bring home anything other than the same two textbooks that he brings home on just about a daily basis, he would have to carry the books home. Why can’t you just place them into the top zippered section you ask? Well, because the books from that middle section push toward the back making it impossible to place another book inside of the top zippered section.
Overall, the book bag is not completely terrible. The construction of it is solid and very sturdy. We are almost through the school year and there are no rips, tears, or holes in the book bag. The zippers are all still in tact, so the quality aspect is completely there. However, I would recommend purchasing this book bag for children who are maybe slightly younger and do not have as much homework that they bring home, especially when it comes to textbooks. Maybe 2-4th grade tops.
In comparison to the Adidas book bag that he had previously, the quality and strength of the materials were the same, although the Adidas book bag trumped the High Sierra in size and ability to hold everything that the boy could bring home. The High Sierra book bag is more of a small to mid-sized book bag that cannot accommodate a large quantity of text books. Our son is not the superstar student and does not go out of his way to bring home textbooks and other school things that he wouldn’t need at home, so if you have a student that does require lots of notebooks and textbooks to be brought home on a daily basis, I would recommend looking at other book bags that can accommodate the needs of your student.

However, the exact model I purchased was no longer available on their website, so I had to choose from the limited options in stock. The only one available was an adult-sized bag, while I had been looking for a teen-sized one. I went with it since there was no alternative, but it’s far too big and is now just sitting unused in my closet.

My daughter used this backpack daily for school from 2022-2025. She is not gentle with her backpacks and it held up so well! One minor tear on the bottom but that’s it! The straps never tore, and it washes up so nicely! The only reason we had to replace it was the main pocket zipper broke this year. This book bag was purchased for a sixth grade boy who seemingly has an increased workload of homework from school, so I knew that he needed something that would be able to endure the rough & tough nature of boys and still hold up to all of the homework demands. I have been impressed with the quality of High Sierra and sought out this brand when considering this purchase for him. Previously he had an Adidas book bag that lasted 2.5 years and in comparison to this High Sierra book bag, it might have been better that we stuck with the same brand that we had used previously.
Although there are lots of zippers and compartments for things, my initial thought upon receiving this book bag was, “Wow, this is a little small.” Knowing that looks could be deceiving, we decided to give it a go anyways. On a typical school day, our son brings home an assignment notebook, his homework / school work folder, usually 1-2 school books (standard sized, hard-covered books), and then usually by the time that he gets home, he has other things stuffed in there (such as his winter hat, a hoodie, gloves, pencils, school papers, etc).
The middle section is where his text books are normally placed, and just with the two textbooks that he brings home, it is a rather snug fit. The main zippered section is where he places his assignment notebook and homework / school work folder. Thinking that I was “smarter than a sixth grader,” I decided to switch around where he was placing the books vs the assignment notebooks and to my dismay, the folder and assignment notebook were too tall and interfered with the zipper, thus he would have been unable to zip up that section of the book bag. Basically if he was to bring home anything other than the same two textbooks that he brings home on just about a daily basis, he would have to carry the books home. Why can’t you just place them into the top zippered section you ask? Well, because the books from that middle section push toward the back making it impossible to place another book inside of the top zippered section.
Overall, the book bag is not completely terrible. The construction of it is solid and very sturdy. We are almost through the school year and there are no rips, tears, or holes in the book bag. The zippers are all still in tact, so the quality aspect is completely there. However, I would recommend purchasing this book bag for children who are maybe slightly younger and do not have as much homework that they bring home, especially when it comes to textbooks. Maybe 2-4th grade tops.
In comparison to the Adidas book bag that he had previously, the quality and strength of the materials were the same, although the Adidas book bag trumped the High Sierra in size and ability to hold everything that the boy could bring home. The High Sierra book bag is more of a small to mid-sized book bag that cannot accommodate a large quantity of text books. Our son is not the superstar student and does not go out of his way to bring home textbooks and other school things that he wouldn’t need at home, so if you have a student that does require lots of notebooks and textbooks to be brought home on a daily basis, I would recommend looking at other book bags that can accommodate the needs of your student.

Six months after I bought the High Sierra Loop Backpack, one of the shoulder straps started ripping apart at the seam, and the zipper to the front pocket had broken off (the backpack was gently used). I think the high ratings for this backpack may be due to early user experiences. This backpack (my copy of it at least) isn’t very durable. Note, too, that I bought the backpack from Babyz Corner direct, NOT from a third party seller.I’ve had JanSport backpacks that have held up to *years* of heavy use. If you’re looking for something more durable, you might want to spend a little more to get a JanSport or a The North Face backpack (both of which are renowned for their quality and durability).You may, however, opt to buy this backpack anyway since this backpack has received mostly positive reviews and my experience may be an isolated instance. Here are the specifications to help you decide whether this backpack is right for you:Compartments————● 2 Side PocketsEach of the two side pockets has an elastic band and see-through mesh netting. Each pocket is an ideal place for putting a water bottle, a pair of hiking poles, or even a tripod. I use one of the pockets for a camera tripod and the other for a water bottle when I’m out shooting.● 3 zippered compartmentsThere are 3 other zippered compartments besides the main zippered compartment.1. The largest of the compartments (located in front of the backpack) has lots of pockets for putting your calculator, cell phone, stationery, etc. It has plenty of room; it will fit 3 or 4 small paperback books, just to give you a rough idea of its size. Personally, the size of this backpack suits me *perfectly*. It has an elastic pocket for putting your cell phone so you always have your cell phone within easy reach.● Bottom StrapsThe bottom of the backpack has a pair of straps for strapping on additional equipment you need to bring along.● Side Compression StrapsThe side compression straps can be used in tandem with the side pockets to keep your stuff safely secured.o NO Sternum Strap & Waist StrapThis backpack has NO sternum strap (also known as a chest strap) and NO waist strap. I purchased one of these bags back in 2022, and it lasted almost 2 years. Based on that experience, I decided to buy another one.
Unfortunately, the quality has gone downhill. As soon as I received the new bag, I noticed the material felt much thinner and cheaper compared to the previous one. Sure enough, the shoulder strap started ripping after just a little over 6 weeks of daily use.
I reached out to Customer Support, and they were responsive. They asked for proof of purchase, photos of the damage, and other details. After reviewing, they approved a replacement. However, the exact model I purchased was no longer available on their website, so I had to choose from the limited options in stock. The only one available was an adult-sized bag, while I had been looking for a teen-sized one. I went with it since there was no alternative, but it’s far too big and is now just sitting unused in my closet.
Overall:

• Product Quality: Poor – material is flimsy and did not last.
• Replacement Experience: Unsatisfactory – limited options, and not a suitable size.
Now I’ll need to look elsewhere for a bag that will last at least a year in the correct size I needed.

Bought this for my daughter when she started high school two years ago. It holds her laptop and a bunch of notebooks. The back padding is very good, but the padding on the shoulder straps has worn out. She loved the pink style with lots of pockets. She like to store everything in separate pockets. She loves the pocket on top that she uses to store her cell phone. When it is full and properly loaded it stays upright, so that her phone is not at risk of damage. Its starting to get wear on the bottom, where she constantly puts it on the floor. We are expecting that it will last until the end of the year, for school purposes. It doesn’t have a laptop pocket, but she inserts a vertical laptop bag that she can remove as needed. RECOMMENDATION TO MANUFACTURER: Make the bottom a little bit stiffer and more of more durable material. Instructions or diagrams on how to use or adjust the bands. It seems more designed for backpacking than school.

I bought this backpack after being a dedicated fan of JanSport for a number of years. I was a senior in high school, looking for something to last me a while. I knew about High Sierra backpacks and decided to check them out. This backpack has gone with me from class to class in high school and now I’m a college junior and it’s still going strong, with only some minor signs of wear and tear, mostly around the straps. (but that’s to be expected) I have certainly put it to the test as I carry a lot of stuff and am always moving around. It has been shoved in a variety of places. picked up and moved around many times a day, carried ~20 lbs of cargo. It holds everything I need it to (and then some).
I will say the water bottle pockets have not stood the test of time, but I also carry a 32 oz bottle with me.
I also love the pattern and I have never seen anyone else with the same backpack, which makes it easy to identify as mine. For a $30 backpack, this has done everything I want it to and more!

I ordered this because I was in desperate need of a good backpack for doing my rotations at the hospital without having to miss any equipment or to even have to carry multiple bags with me. Size was perfect, fabric feels very reliable, strong & durable. I will say the water bottle pockets have not stood the test of time, but I also carry a 32 oz bottle with me.
I also love the pattern and I have never seen anyone else with the same backpack, which makes it easy to identify as mine. For a $30 backpack, this has done everything I want it to and more!

CONS:
– Maybe the zippers will not last as long. They seem to get stuck on the adjacent fabric. Time will tell!

I am honestly so happy with my high Sierra loop backpack! I was pleasantly surprised by just how much this backpack can truly hold. I’ve been using it as my gym bag and amazingly it fits everything I need. It’s appears super durable so I anticipate it will last me a while.
The backpack’s padded straps are super comfortable and adjust easily, which is perfect for someone on the shorter side like myself. The color is just as vibrant as in the pictures and I’ve received tons of compliments on it.

The size is just perfect for small frame person, a good fit for younger adult. The bag has divided compartment that accommodate any gadgets you have. The material is easy to clean, with a damp cloth wiping it is a breeze.

The colour is beautiful the broad straps are ideal for taking the many books to school (Jamaica). It does not cut into my son’s shoulders. The many compartments are great for organizing his stuff. And most importantly it withstands being thrown all over the school and house.

I was able to purchase this backpack during a flash sale and the price was less than half it would be in our local mass merchandise store. The backpack seems to be made well and my hope is that it holds up well for an 11 year old boy for the whole year.

Great quality backpack that surprisingly has a lot of capacity. Color is dope and is really comfortable to carry around. Side pockets are large enough to hold my 36 ounce yeti bottle which is cool. Would highly recommend this product as I have had good experiences with High Sierra products.

At first I wasn’t sure how I would like this backpack because there are so many added hooks, loops, and dangles to get caught on things and I wasn’t sure I would use them for a daily use computer bag. Now that I’ve used it every day for a month, I love it! Here are my pros and cons:
Cons:
1. The reason this bag gets four stars instead of five is the inadequate padding in the main computer pocket. I feel uncomfortable setting my back down upright with a computer inside because there is essentially nothing in the bottom of the bag to protect the laptop. I wish I had removed the padding from my old computer bag before I recycled it.
2. The pockets overall are a little bit smaller than I prefer. Particularly the front-most pocket that contains all the organizers – it doesn’t zip open far enough to be able to use the organizers comfortably.
3. The fabric looks a little bit cheap. It’s very structurally sound, but it just doesn’t LOOK sturdy.
Pros:
1. Organization! I wasn’t sure I would like all the dangly bits, and some of them still don’t get used. But I LOVE having the various smaller pockets throughout the bag. I put my water bottle in one side mesh pocket and a small umbrella in the other. I have my feminine supplies at easy reach in the small top center pocket, and I use the second small pocket to hold pens, a few dollars, and chapstick – the other things I might need quickly. The cell phone pocket on the strap is a little small for my phone case, though I can just squeeze it in. However, let’s be honest, I’m usually using my cell phone on the subway when I’m commuting anyway. The pocket is GREAT, though, for holding tissues during cold season and hosting a group of hairbands that I can use when the subway gets too crowded or the internal temperature is really badly aligned with the changing of the seasons outdoors. If you have a phone bigger than an iphone 5, you may have a tough time using the cell phone pocket the way it’s intended.
2. Good suspension. The straps are extremely comfortable and can be adjusted easily. I find the bag doesn’t rub on my clothing when I have to walk longer distances, unlike some other bags I’ve tried.
3. The clip on the front center can be used to hold another bag (like a canvas shopping bag) if you need to carry something while keeping your hands free. I wouldn’t attach something that weighed more than a few pounds, but it has held up to everything so far.
In short, this bag works for me! I just recommend being careful when you set it down with your laptop inside. That’s probably a good habit to be in anyway.

We originally purchased this backpack a little over 3 years ago for my son for school. He has put it through 3 school years, he has dropped it, tossed it, thrown it, loaded it with more crap then any kid should ever have to carry at school and it just kept surviving! It held up to carrying a computer, 3 thick school books, 5-6 composition books, 6 folders plus all the small crap like pens, pencils, glue etc. This really has been a great backpack. It is well made.. the only down side is the strap did finally give out. BUT because of how long it last after all it was put through we are purchasing another one for this year that should get him through his last 3 years of school!!
I would highly recommend this!! It has plenty of space for everything, is well made and comes in lots of colors!!
