This booster has been game changer for rental-car vacations and those times when my child has needed a quick lift in another family member’s car. It inflates in less than a minute and stores away compactly in carry-on luggage. It’s a dependable, high-quality alternative when you can’t have your everyday car seat. You can’t beat Hiccapop’s customer service, either: they offer a lifetime guarantee with this product. When I noticed that the booster was not staying inflated long on our last trip (after six years of trusty use!), sure enough I reached out via the website and was able to acquire a replacement insert with very quick turnaround. Highly recommend this and other Hiccapop products!

  2. Danielle

This thing is amazing, I was a bit skeptical but I am so glad I purchased this.

Rolled up it fits in my purse. It takes an adult two or three breaths to inflate it in just seconds

Place the seat down make sure it’s pushed all the way against the seat, stick child on seat and buckle them as you would an adult. No fiddly troublesome latch connectors to mess with.

Only extra thing you have to do is slide the seat belt on either side of the hips into the metal connectors, only takes a few seconds for each side. Don’t need to do any adjusting for this.

Finally, if they need it if the top belt is too high like against their face, you use the shoulder clip. You use a slipknot connection to secure it on the side where the seat belt is extending from, and clip it to make sure the high part of the torso belt is placed snugly against their collarbone. If it’s against their neck or higher, you NEED to use this clip for safety reasons

Bonus tip, if you were like me you want to save a few seconds getting into rideshare and have it blown up already while waiting to be picked up. In the morning I’m carrying multiple bags including my son’s backpack so I inflate it, put and put the carrying case and patch repair kit in my purse. To be able to swing it over my shoulder to have my hands free, I attach the shoulder adjustment clip the fabric loop right next to it so that it essentially forms a makeshift temporary strap like a shoulder purse. If you extend the shoulder clip belt all the way out and do the same thing by clipping it on to form a strap, you would have enough length to even carry it crossbody or backpack style.

All in all I absolutely love this thing. Even with my first time using it, it took no longer than 45 seconds to set it up and adjust the shoulder strap to fit my son. Second time using it, it took less than 30 seconds.

I have a 4-year-old who meets the minimum legal and safety requirements for this product. He weighs 42 lbs and 43 inches tall, the seat works perfectly for his size. He is happy because he feels like a big boy thrilled to have a break from his rear-facing seat

However take note this important part regarding safety. The only time I am ever using this is when I will be seated right next to my son while using Uber or Lyft, to be able to him and fix the belt if he were to try to mess with it which would be incredibly dangerous.

Just because your child needs the height and weight requirements definitely does not mean they are ready for a backless booster. These type of products are not usually recommended for young children because of maturity level. It’s only safe if all the straps and everything stay in place, and the child isn’t wiggling and moving around for touching/moving/pulling at the straps.

Unless your child is very mature and you trust them 100 percent they won’t touch the seatbelt, get something different or only get this if you will be right next to them watching all the time like I do. Most toddlers should not be trusted to be in the backseat alone with a backless booster. They often will put their arms over the chest strap which will put their life at danger if they were in an accident

Also remember the lap belt should not be against their stomach. To be certain that it’s properly fitted, it needs to be flat against the very tops of their thighs. Which is why it’s called a lap belt and not a hip or stomach belt 🙂

Here’s a photo of my son sitting in his new seat for the very first time while taking a short 2 mile Lyft to school. He was a bit confused but now I believe he loves it, as it seems much more comfortable than a car seat!

To deflate you just kind of poke your finger in the air valve to break the seal, and roll It up from the bottom. Deflates and is back in the bag in seconds. You can store the manual inside the case but I don’t think that’s necessary as it’s so simple.

Keep the repair kit with you at all times just in the unlikely event it starts leaking. And finally, a last piece of advice! Be very careful when zipping the cover up after you inflate it. Be careful that the the zipper teeth don’t catch the white inflatable part or you may risk a puncture

All in all, am extremely pleased and this product has exceeded my expectations. You definitely would not recommend it as a booster seat to be used all the time. You should always rear face your young child until they max out the seat for switching to forward facing, and max out that before switching to a booster.. preferably a high back one.

The only reason I would ever recommend something like this is for maybe a spare extra seat that is ultimately used, or something that you need for travel like ride sharing airplanes and other public transport.

As long as it’s properly positioned they will be much safer, however a 5-point harness car seat is superior to anything else. Parents reading this, PLEASE don’t consider switching to a backless booster once your young kid meets the minimum requirements. Just because it’s legal does not mean it’s back best practice and safe.

The only reason my son is using this, is because I cannot realistically carry and install our heavy car seat every morning for our short Uber and Lyft rides.

    Hope my feedback helps someone!

Our trip to New York was so much easier thanks to the Hiccapop Inflatable Booster Seat! It was honestly the best inflatable car seat I’ve ever used for my son. It was lightweight, easy to inflate and deflate, and fit perfectly in Ubers and taxis. It made traveling so much more convenient without sacrificing comfort. If you’re traveling with kids, I highly recommend it—definitely one of the best travel purchases we’ve made!

  4. Moon Maki

I have 3 of these inflatable boosters, I love them and will continue to buy them for each of my kids as they get older. My only complaint is it does deflate a little after a couple of days of use but I just blow it back up and it’s fine again. Easy for how often we travel and not having to tote around a hug booster seat. It deflates small enough for the kids to put in their backpacks.

Very practical booster, perfect for traveling or urban commute. What blew my.mond is their lifetime warranty. The exhaust valve broke on one of my cushions and out of curiosity I sent an email asking if I could buy jist the cushion and they surprise me saying that they would ship the replacement for free. I couldn’t believe it, especially for what u pay for it. I highly recommend this booster to all parents who want to assure a safer ride.

This blow up booster seat was a wonderful convenience to have on our trip, and a great price as well. I love Hiccapop, they really stand behind their products.

The seat was super easy to blow up, held air, and worked great for the short car trip with my 4 year old grandson. It was also easy to install.

  9. Danielle

Such a convenient travel booster seat!! I bought this so that we can more easily travel with our 6 year old. I wanted something lightweight and small that I can easily throw into a backpack or purse so that we can actually take Ubers and taxis while on vacation. This was SO fast to blow up and very easy to hook into the car quickly. And I really like that the seat has grips on the bottom so it doesn’t slide around or seem like it’s going to fly out from under my daughter. I highly recommend this product for parents who want an easy travel booster!

This is so convenient and genius! We bought this so we wouldn’t have to bring our big hard booster seat and have to check it at the airport. This just inflates and deflates as needed and you can easily pack it in your suitcase. So much less hassle!

My daughter is attends a private school that requires her to be picked up and dropped off via a transportation van, instead of a school bus. Because the drivers and vans alternate, she has to keep her booster seat with her at school. Lugging around a “typical” booster, even after switching to backless, is cumbersome – especially for a tiny 7 year old!

The hiccappop UberBoost inflatable booster seemed like such a perfect solution that initially I felt like it was almost too good to be true. I did a ton of research to assure myself that it was a legitimate, safe product, and finally purchased one last weekend. It arrived overnight, and we were immediately able to put it to the test, as we were going to visit family over an hour away.

It was simple to inflate, and is placed in the backseat of the vehicle like any other booster. After my daughter sat onto the UberBoost, I fed the lap part of the seatbelt through the guides on the left and right of the booster seat, and then used the shoulder belt adjustment strap to keep the shoulder belt away from my daughter’s face and neck, and into correct placement over her shoulder.

The adjustment strap was the only slightly confusing part of installing the seat – one side of the strap needs to be secured via a tight slip knot around one of the back loops of the booster seat. It took me a minute to realize that I had to use the loop located on the same side as where the child is sitting. So, if your child is seated on the right side of the car, it would be knotted through the right loop, if they’re seated on the left side of the car, it would be knotted through the left loop.

Once the adjustment strap loop is secured to the seat, you bring the other end of the strap up and attach the plastic buckle to the seatbelt, adjusting the clip/belt downwards, and firmly snap the buckle closed around the seatbelt.

It was absolutely simple, and according to my daughter, extremely comfortable, “Like sitting on air..get it, Mom? Cuz you used air to blow it up?” We were traveling via Uber, so I was able to sit next to her in the backseat and observe. The UberBoost performs exactly like any other booster seat, it’s just more compact and lightweight.

We’ve only had it for a week now, but she’s used it to travel over the weekend (and hour ride each way) and to and from school. She loves that she can deflate her seat upon arriving at school and keep it tucked away in her backpack until the end of the school day. Then it’s simple to reinflate to use for the ride home.

This is an absolutely wonderful product. It’s safe, easy to use and is a perfect solution for anyone who uses multiple vehicles.

I purchased both for my two toddlers, and have used them extensively for numerous car trips in a wide range of vehicles.

    Price/Value: Tie

Both are priced around $35-40, and each contains a seat, carry bag and manual. Both have lifetime satisfaction guarantees.

    Materials and Build: hiccapop

Both booster seats use a drawstring bag for storage, with a spring-loaded cord lock. I prefer the smaller, stretchy fabric BubbleBum bag, whereas the hiccapop bag is unnecessarily large, but is made of a water-resistant nylon which will probably last longer. Both seats have nice fabric covers that are well made, and seem durable, and come in a few color options. The hiccapop’s cover is removable (with a zipper) and is machine washable, whereas the BubbleBum is surface clean only and should not be removed (according to the manual). The BubbleBum advertises as having a safety and stability system built in, which consists of memory foam and padding over the air chamber, with a reinforced harness around the cover. Apparently this stabilizes movement and keeps its structural integrity, and there is probably some validity to those claims. The hiccapop is just an air bladder inside the cover. That said, the hiccapop’s underside is flat, with a non-skid fabric (more on that later) whereas the BubbleBum’s is a smooth fabric which also has a lot of straps that make it harder to place perfectly flat on a seat. For the seatbelt clips, the BubbleBum uses toughened polymer (plastic), and hiccapop uses coated metal for the lap belt and polymer for the shoulder belt (incidentally, BubbleBum says metal can bend, and hiccapop implies that plastic is not as durable). I don’t think it makes much of a difference safety-wise, but I slightly prefer the metal on the hiccapop (which is used for car seatbelts, even when covered in plastic), even if it adds a bit more weight (1.3lbs vs. <1lb).

Ease of Setup and Installation: Tie

Both booster seats have an inflation valve to inflate to size. The BubbleBum has an external screw valve at the back of the seat. It’s very easy and intuitive to open and close, and to wrap your lips around when inflating. But it’s hard to retain the air when closing the valve after inflation. Also, the valve protrudes from the seat, which can be more uncomfortable for the child if shifting around, and can leave a temporary mark on the upholstery. The hiccapop has a flat valve with a flap under the fabric cover at the front. It’s more fiddly to open and close the flap, and a bit more cumbersome to put your mouth around to inflate. It still inflates quickly, and holds the air in while taking a breath, however it does require that you need to stick your finger into the valve to get all the air out when deflating. Being under the cover means it’s more protected, but you have to open and close the zipper.

To install, both seats are placed directly on the car seat. With the child then sitting on the seat, the seatbelt comes across the child’s lap, and is clipped into the belt loops on each side of the booster. Then the positioning clip attaches to the shoulder belt behind the child’s shoulder. On the BubbleBum, the shoulder belt positioning clip can slide from one side of the seat to the other along a strap underneath, which is helpful when installing or moving in a new vehicle, especially rideshares and taxis. But the clip is just a plastic loop that I found to slide around on the belt, and can sometimes slide off a fidgety kid’s shoulder. On the hiccapop, you have to attach the shoulder belt positioning clip on a loop on the left or right side of the seat, which takes a bit more time if you have to change seats. But the clip actually snaps closed and secures firmly onto the shoulder belt, keeping it in place.

Uninstalling is to do the reverse, and is quick and easy for both. Also, both designs allow you to slip the user manual inside the cover for storage on the go.

    Comfort: hiccapop

The hiccapop seat is about 20% larger, and has side bolsters which provide more support. With the extra size, this is equivalent to the additional weight and volume of a medium-sized apple, which may be important for some. The BubbleBum has memory foam and padding, but from a comfort standpoint, it doesn’t feel appreciably better, at least according to my kids who have used them extensively. Also, the hiccapop has a grippy texture on the bottom which prevents it from sliding around. For slightly longer trips, this is important to stop it from moving out of position and becoming uncomfortable to sit on. The hiccapop advertises this as an important feature (twice, in fact), and until I saw it in action I didn’t fully appreciate how important it was.

    Safety: Tie

Both meet or exceed federal standards for car seat safety. The BubbleBum advertises as also meeting rollover standards, but I believe this is more a matter of actually having the test done, rather than not potentially applying to other booster seats. After all, most seats are similarly minimal in design. But it does give peace of mind knowing it was tested. As indicated above, the BubbleBum has padding and reinforcements for safety and stability, but that’s only as good as the when the seat stays in place. The fact that the hiccapop stays in place more easily, and secures better at the shoulder, gives me more assurance that it will be used as designed.

    Conclusion: hiccapop

To be honest, I like both seats and will continue to use them. Both are safe and fairly easy to use. I slightly prefer hiccapop’s larger size, side bolsters, washable cover with the non-slip underside material, and better shoulder belt positioning clip. If I were to be nit-picky, I wish the carrying bag were more streamlined, and that it could incorporate memory foam for stability like the BubbleBum.

  20. ThatSafetyMom

I have been a child passenger safety technician for 20+ years and work regularly in the field of car seat safety. I have had some parents asking me what the difference is between these two seats. I had used a BubbleBum before but had never tried the Hiccapop seat until now. These are my own opinions and I have not been influenced by either brand.

****Safety should be the priority when deciding which seat to use for your child even for short journeys or when travelling.*** Therefore, I would recommend BubbleBum for these reasons.

    Stability

Hiccapop : this seat is designed with one compartment to fill with air, like a beach ball. The material used is also similar to that of a beach ball or an inflatable toy. It has more height than the BubbleBum but this means that the air will be further displaced when pressure is applied on one end of the seat. In my opinion this would increase the chance of submarining which is exactly what booster seats are designed to prevent.

BubbleBum: This seat is filled with a type of foam which makes for less movement of air and therefore less chance of submarining which is safer. The fabric on the inflatable part is much tougher than Hiccapop and would be much more difficult for a child to puncture. It would be nice if the BubbleBum was a little bigger to make it roomier for the child, however, not to the detriment of the safety of the child. The inner inflatable section is divided and the foam makes it feel much more stable with less wobble.

    Crash testing

Hiccapop : meet the USA crash tests which are frontal and rear

BubbleBum : meets both Eu and USA crash testing which are frontal, rear AND rollover.

Lap belt positioning side clips :

Hiccapop: the side clips are made of metal but they are bendable. I was also able to easily pull the side clips off of the inflatable seat which was a major safety concern for me.

I was also concerned that when/if the seat is punctured it would appear that the seat belt clips would allow more than 8inches of slack in the belt path which is dangerous for the child. Remember the purpose of the booster seat is to position the lap belt on the strongest parts of the body, not on the soft tummy area.

BubbleBum : The side clips are attached by a belt which extends around the inflatable section so it was not possible to pull them off. While they are made of a type of plastic, it is really strong and I was unable to break them even with a hammer. When the seat is punctured it will still hold the lap belt low on the hips which will keep the child protected, as the height doesn’t change much even when punctured because of the foam inner.

In my opinion, Bubblebum is by far the superior product.

I was pleasantly surprised to have this work so well on our last vacation! Packs down to be compact enough to carry in a backpack (with other stuff) on the airplane. Easy to blow up (took 5 breaths for me) and deflates/packs down in seconds. Easy to install in our rental car and comfortable for my 5 year old to sit on for a week without having to reinflate and the added seatbelt adjuster helped tremendously. If you are looking for something that isn’t bulky to bring along on the next adventure with your mini companion, I would definitely recommend this product for their booster needs.

This car seat is easy to use and reliable. I carry mine across countries whenever I travel with my kid and it is easy to carry, light and of good quality.

Gather ’round, fellow wanderers and weary travelers, for I have discovered the holy grail of portable seating solutions – the Ultraboost Inflatable Car Seat! Strap yourselves in (pun intended), because this review is about to take you on a journey filled with comfort, convenience, and a dash of inflatable magic.

Let’s kick things off with a bang – the portability factor. Picture this: you, me, and the Ultraboost Inflatable Car Seat embarking on a three-day Uber extravaganza. Gone are the days of lugging around a cumbersome bottom car seat like a pack mule with a vendetta against your back. With the Ultraboost, you’ll be traveling in style and comfort, without sacrificing an ounce of convenience.

Now, let’s talk inflation. Oh boy, where do I even begin? Inflating this bad boy is as easy as 1, 2, 3… or should I say, 3 to 4 breaths? That’s right, folks – with just a few puffs of air, you’ll have yourself a plush, comfortable car seat that’s ready to take on the world (or at least the next Uber ride). And let’s not forget about deflating – a few quick seconds and you’re ready to roll, no sweat required.

But let’s not stop there – let’s talk about comfort. This isn’t just any old inflatable seat, folks. This is the Ultraboost, the Rolls Royce of portable seating. It’s like sitting on a cloud, a fluffy marshmallow, or your grandma’s overstuffed armchair – pick your metaphor, because they all apply. Trust me, your derrière will thank you.

And the best part? This thing is durable. I’m talking tougher than a grizzled cowboy riding into the sunset. It can handle bumps, jolts, and the occasional spillage like a champ. Plus, it’s easy to clean – just a quick wipe-down and you’re good to go.

If you’re in the market for a portable car seat that’s as convenient as it is comfortable, look no further than the Ultraboost Inflatable Car Seat. It’s a game-changer, a lifesaver, and a must-have for any traveler on the go. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Thanks, Ultraboost, for revolutionizing the way we travel – one inflatable seat at a time!

I have bought this same product 3 x for separate family members. It is so easy to bring on trips and is very compact. Simple enough to use my daughter can do it on her own.

  29. Talita

We haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but we inflated it and had my 50lb 4 1/2 year old try it out and it seems awesome. It seems secure and well thought out, I like the added ability to adjust the seatbelt strap height. It’s also so lightweight so it’s so much easier to travel with and it took 5-6 breaths to inflate. My child said it was comfortable during the trial but I can’t speak for actual car rides. I have yet to be disappointed with Hiccapop products, I’ve ordered a few items from them over the years and they are always excellent. I’ve also used their lifetime guarantee to replace a product that had worn down after 2 years or so of use. It was totally free. Very excited to try this booster seat.

  34. jtsholtod
